Australasia Swiss Clubs Web Portal

Situation

The Swiss Society of Queensland Inc. needed a dynamic
website so they can easily update events and other club
information online without having much knowledge of
HTML or other web technologies. They also wanted to
give other clubs the opportunity to represent
themselves with their own pages and events calendar.

Solution

A fully dynamic website based on PHP
and a mySQL-database was developed to host multiple
Swiss clubs around Australia and New Zealand.
Currently, 15 different Swiss clubs are already
participating and the number of subscriptions is growing every year.

Features

As a showcase project for off-ice applications, this site is constantly updated with new features. Below, you will find a complete feature list grouped by user level. It gives you an idea of what modern web technology can do.

Features for visitors (like you):

• Personalise your index page and select what you want to see on the main index page
• Make use of the diary features that show events from your nominated Swiss Clubs together with your own entries
• Add your own contact details or cool link to swiss.org.au
• Post a message on the Community Board
• Quick-Search pages on swiss.org.au, Switzerland, Australia or Worlwide
• Search swiss.org.au and browse through the resulting pages where the search words are automatically highlighted

Features for members:

• Get your own member profile and email-alias on swiss.org.au
• Access member protected pages

Features for club administrators:

• Manage all menus, page contents and external files or media of your club pages via an online interface
• Nominate other users as general editors or on a page-per-page basis
• Add events to the events calendar and setup online RSVP forms for members/visitors
• Create pages with discussion boards, online forms or searchable datasets
• Create slideshows (thumbnails are created automatically)
• Manage, approve or decline your club members online
• View detailed summary of all contents, files and access statistics per page

Achievements

This web site has been widely accepted by the Swiss community for its ease of use and powerful features. Today, it is THE web site for Swiss living in Australasia and is updated constantly by all Club Administrators and Editors.
